Bonzo sits in the tv room
Of the Simian Actor's Retirement Home
Every week from six til nine
He doesn't listen to the nurses when they tell him that it's bedtime

Bonzo used to be a movie star
But hardly anyone remembers back that far
Still it's up at eight am and shuffleboard til ten

But Bonzo he don't want to go and he don't want to play
No Bonzo he just folds his arms cause he would rather stay
Watching special broadcasts from the White House live on CNN
It's his old friend

Bonzo knows his time has passed him by
He not too old to live but then again he's not too young to die
And all the nurses treat him like a clown
When he says he knows that the good fortune that his friend has had will just trickle down

Bonzo spent his evenings looking for a sign
Then he blinked his eyes and it was 1989
And he watched his good friend wave goodbye on national tv

Bonzo got up off the couch cause all his hope was gone
He joined the Bear and Cheetah playing bocce on the lawn
But then saw the presidential motorcade coming round the bend
It was his old friend
